Recorded at The Doghouse in Nashville, Tennessee, with producer Steve Buckingham (who produced Taylor's Sony cds, 'Kiss And Tell' and 'Nightlife'), 'SOLO' features Martin at his astonishing best on fourteen tracks played, as the title suggests, completely solo. "Every time we've recorded at the Doghouse," comments Martin, "we've improved the sound and learned how to get the best sound out of me and whatever guitar I'm playing, (on this cd a Vanden Martin Taylor Artistry arch top guitar designed by Mike Vanden and Martin Taylor and hand built in Strontian, Scotland, by Mike Vanden). The way we recorded 'SOLO' is a hi-fi buff and audio freak's dream come true - partly to do with recording technique and partly to do with the equipment we used. "I'm always looking to develop my playing," he continues. "What I do on the guitar is unique; when I'm playing I feel the music and create moods and emotions - it's not just guitar playing, it's literally the way you touch the strings. There might be three things going on - bass, chorus, melody line - I can bring one note out, make another one quieter, make other notes sound edgier and - drawing out different textures from different strings so it sounds like there are two guitars playing." All 14 tracks are a joy” - The Observer (London) “His ability to create simultaneous melody, harmony and bass effects in real time with no overdubbing borders on the miraculous at times" - Jazzwise Magazine “Superb” - Jazz Review Magazine “Solo sees Martin displaying his phenomenal chops and arranging finesse on a broad range of standard tunes” - Guitarist Magazine
